Room 106, cold, sold chairs and dirty, torn handles in the bathtub, dust-covered, the room's right after the bombing, I don't recommend extremes.

A nightmare.

The standard room for two is a two-room apartment. If you need anything: slippers, jackets, hygiene kits. Refrigerator, teacup, tea. Clean, cleaned every day. The restaurant has a meager breakfast, but you won't be hungry. It's not far from downtown. Quiet. There's no grille on the windows.

Not bad hotel near the center.

I'm sorry there's no disgusting rating, or I'd put it just like that. The toilet seat is just as convenient as the toilet seat is. That's all. Now the sad one... The room I finally got, after looking at the two previous ones, was a sold-out mattress, after sleeping, all the muscles hurt like that. The room is littered with hot flashes, creating a fire hazard.

It's a terrible hotel.

Spending the night in Yuzhno Sakhalinsk is considerably more expensive than on the mainland and the somewhat dated, but clean and orderly hotel is therefore a reasonable budget alternative, which is frequented by guests who spend the night professionally.
The offered rooms, 1st period studio and 2nd period apartment, turned out to be large. 
The furniture included fridge and waterboiler. The free breakfast buffet is served in a pleasantly decorated restaurant, in
the basement. Wifi is also free. The walking distance to the wide Mira Ave is approximately 700 meters. The receptionists appeared to be proficient in at least English, but the smartphone turned out to be a good help.A taxi to the airport takes about 30 minutes.

A reasonable budget alternative !!

Three days. A quiet hotel. Not loud. Breakfast is simple, but you can eat. The room is tired, but it's big. There's a faucet in the bathroom, a vague laminate, furniture. But everything is clean and tidy. A lot of aquariums!!! It's just amazing, even with beautiful big fishes. There are no flat boards. One for the hotel and one for the first floor, in a vague room, with a vague connection to the electrical network.

It's warm and clean.

I spent a night here earlier this week. 
Location is very good- easy walking distance to everywhere in the City, and on a quiet street. There's also a shop next door open till 10pm selling a remarkable range of items! 
None of the staff speak English, but check in was easy enough. My 3rd floor room was clean and large. The bed was comfortable and there was a decent desk space plus tea making facilities.
Ensuite was clean and also spacious. Toiletries and towels in short supply however and the towels are like sandpaper!
There is WiFi but it's not great- connection goes on and off!
But for 3000RUB per night it was good value, and a perfectly comfortable hotel for a short stay. 

Not Bad

The Lotos is an entirely satisfactory Russian hotel of its class.  The rooms are sufficiently large, the bathrooms are new and solid, with a full-size bath, and the staff are helpful.  The hotel is quiet.  The linen and towels are clean and new.  You get a fridge and tea-making facilities. The heating and hot water are reliable.   It is well located, about 3 blocks from the main street Lenina where there are a couple of very good restaurants and the usual grocery stores, and about 5 blocks from the railway station.  On the balancing side, the rooms have vinyl flooring, the breakfast is poor - coffee, bread, two fried eggs and some ordinary sausage - and there is (as you would expect in a Russian hotel in this price range) no lift.  Of course there is no gym or anything like that.  But if you have any experience of Russian regional hotels you will find this place entirely satisfactory and better than the average. There is, helpfully, a grocery shop underneath the hotel  open till 10 at night which even runs to champagne in the fridge.

We've been to a place that we've been to many times: after 3 years, we decided to stay in Lotos again. It was affordable. Modest, clean, welcoming staff, and what you need for people on business trips who don't sit in a hotel for days. We enjoyed the internet - WiFi was fast, there were no failures. It was also nice to have a less normal kitchen in the hotel walls - the Assorti cafe runs from 11 to 22 (network in South Sakhalinsk, you can order bodies). Breakfast is basically not taken, it is very modest, then it's better to have breakfast in the city.
