Saldus

We stayed at this hotel for only one night, as it was directed from Riga to Liepaja. The price of a double room (without breakfast) was cheap (40.00 euros) and the location is excellent (in the centre of the village), with free parking on the same street. However, we found too many problems: 1) essential and low-quality furnishings (e.g. no comforts, tiny cabinet without hangers); 2) windowless and fanless bathroom, very small with a small sink and limited heat; 3) very weak Wi-Fi signal in the rooms (practically useless); 4) large beds (one square), but uncomfortable 5) absence of dark curtains with the consequence that at dawn the room turns out to be too sluggish to sleep.

Too many negative things.

Stylish and cosy, this is a boutique version of the traditional Latvian quest house.
The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful.
Had dinner only in this hotel. It served a very Latvian meal.

The room is spacious, cozy, that's probably the only plus. It's obviously missing the attention from the host. We waited a long time for the administrator to open the door for us. The young girl obviously didn't radiate the warmth and kindness in the service.

Stop at Saldus

I am visiting Saldus from Australia.  I have read the other (negative) reviews about this hotel and I have absolutely no idea what everybody is talking about.

The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful.  My room was spotlessly clean and quiet and I could not raise a single complaint.  The price was inexpensive, and the location was excellent.

Anybody complaining about this hotel strikes me as one of those serial complainers who wants a five star hotel but only wants to pay 30 or 40 dollars per night to get it.

The rooms are uncomfortable, dirty, it's not clear what the waitresses are doing, the cleaning is almost invisible, the carpets are old, overgrown, the girls at the reception are not paying attention to the customers, they're doing their business.

Bad hotel.

floors weren`t vacumed. carpets were all torn up. room was still under renovations. there was watermelon seeds all over the carpet and  popcorn. rooms were dark and not welcoming. the girl downstairs at the reception had music blasting as loud as possible at 11 pm. we left the hotel and didnt spend the night and ask for our money back. went to another hotel which was cheaper and much much nicer.

terrible and dirty

Had dinner only in this hotel. It served a very Latvian meal. A whole roasted garlic was a surprise but I ate it. There was no English menu. The accommodation looked modern however I had alternate accommodation so did not require a room.

Reasonable

Stayed here in January for a night. Hotel was fairly centrally located in Saldus - a couple of minutes walk from the main square and the bus station. The lady who runs the hotel did not speak english (but hey I don't speak Latvian either!), however still managed to be very helpful and friendly. For example, when I had not come down for breakfast in the morning she knocked on my door to show me where the breakfast room was. Breakfast (included) was a freshly cooked omelette  which was delicious.

The room was quite run down and not very attractively furnished. There was free wireless internet, however I did have some problems getting a signal at times. Overall I thought the room was overpriced for its quality, however I probably would stay here again if visiting Saldus as there is not really many other options in the city center.

Fine - but nothing special

The hotel is undergoing renovation and our room did not match the images we found on the Internet. The bed and bedding were very old, but clean. The room was sparsely furnished, with bed, cupboard, potted plants and an old TV. The bathroom was clean, but with heavy molding on the ceiling. The owner does not speak foreign languages, but she does a lot of work. She serves a delicious breakfast in a breakfast room that is almost finished. The free parking spaces are located in front of the hotel and are actually public parking.
