For a business trip, I decide to book a room in this hotel on Booking. One of my colleagues makes a reservation by phone or the manager offers her a discounted price and confirms the reservation. On the day of arrival, my room is available but my colleague does not appear in the reservations and the hotel is complete. The manager does not remember the call and even less does the refrain by implying that my boss is lying. The manager offers to put us in the same room by changing my double bed by two. The fault is simple, but we do not take the shower. One of our hotel rooms smells like a hot tub without having to break the windows and leave the fire in the closet, the email does not cross the water bill, and the other guests do not have the same room, so the bathroom and the bathroom are not open. We also confirm that all our guests have not yet used the same room and the bathroom.

School to run!

For professional reasons, I had to find accommodation in Douai. So I chose the Grand Cerf Hotel, which I was very upset about. After several failures to book on the internet, I had to call by phone. The manager announced a price too high for my professional package so I declined but he caught me promising a much lower rate and confirmed the booking. That same evening, I arrived at the hotel with my wife (who booked with Booking). He doesn't find my booking and doesn't remember having me on the phone and even less of a laugh.

Avoiding the Most

The first being that it seems that the hotel is under administrative closure due to major security shortcomings... Indeed, in the hallway and in my room, smoke detectors have been removed! In addition, room in a c.. bag, without a second exit (rescue exit).

Apart from the reception...

To escape absolutely... having two exchange notes, a colleague and I, we arrive at the hotel, we discover that our rooms are already occupied... With the manager, we wander around the hotel looking for free rooms, at 10pm... No other hotel with available rooms, the manager decides to give us a room already allocated, with two beds... He takes away the occupant's belongings (not yet home from dinner...)... We didn't see his head on his arrival... Ah! The manager absolutely wanted us to pay for the rooms, already paid to the agency that issued us the Bonds.... A small lunch: A broken glass coffee machine arrived in a carafe... big change!

Absolutely run away!

So what to say!!!!! Cold room on arrival no heating!!!! On January 28, 2019 The next day the bed didn't do the towels didn't change the poor breakfast products of very poor quality The room 316 avoided a window that didn't work at all We have the noise of the road as if the window was open The coffee machine runs once every two hours The only advantage in the center so town not far from the restos

Running away

If you need, for some reason, to stay in Douai, then look no further than the Hotel du Grand Cerf. It's nice (if unremarkable), it's clean, the staff are friendly - everything you need if you need somewhere to sleep.

It's fairly well-placed in the town for bars and restaurants (there aren't loads of either), and the station is nearby too. I can highly recommend the Brasserie Le Saint George (seems to be known as the Pub Le Saint George online) a few hundred metres away - nice food and decent beer.

There's plenty of nearby parking too (not free).

Very decent

Welcome fine, foyer characterless.  NO LIFT, my room was on the second floor and I wondered how I'd get out should there be a fire!  NO heating in the bathroom which was like a fridge.  I slept with the bathroom door wide open, it didn't close properly and had no lock.  In order to warm the bathroom you had to set the electric radiator to its highest setting but that wasn't much use as the radiator was a long way from the bathroom and then the bedroom was far too hot.  The carpet had not been hoovered, the bed was comfy and the bathroom clean. Soap is provided but nothing else.  There are NO facilities for making tea or coffee in your room.  At breakfast the coffee machine wasn't functioning correctly and the two young girls, although helpful, couldn't do a thing about it.  The boss had gone out and his assistant not available.  So no coffee for breakfast, had to make do with tea...  Otherwise the situation is very central, just off the high street  Sadly every third shop is closed with an estate agent's board in it.  Shame.  Otherwise architecturally the town is interesting and boasts some beautiful houses and monuments.

Very mixed

I stayed for the third time for one night in du Grand Cerf. The room en bathroom are clean and the bed is ok. Breakfast was also good en enough. WiFi was Not that good in my room. This is something where they can work on.

Nice staff, clean but no character.  Was unfortumate to stay here while roadworks ongoing outside the window at 7am - nothing the hotel can do but perhaps warn you and offer alternative??

Would have been nice to have one English speaking chanel on the TV, even if it were just news.

If the hotel read this - I'd suggest putting a sign up on the closed up door (on the 'main' street) advising that the entrance is around the corner- down the lane☺

Needs something

Advertised as two star and was, despite the room and bathroom being very clean and a fan provided as it was so hot. 

The foyer was clean and bright but the corridor carpets were filthy which put you off (although as said the rooms were clean). 

Parking was provided right outside and the reception staff were very hospitable.

Very central and good for one night through the town. Ate at La Terrasse which was delicious.
